QD: News Every Day--Medicaid pay will rise to Medicare levels for next two years

Medicaid reimbursement will rise to Medicare levels for primary care physicians effective in January, the government announced last week.

As mandated by the Affordable Care Act, physicians in family medicine, general internal medicine, pediatric medicine and related subspecialties will see the pay increase in 2013 and 2014. Related subspecialists might qualify if they deliver a primary care service in a qualifying area, such as a pediatric cardiologist who performs a typical pediatric service.

The final rule is online.
