The award for "Greatest effort not to cancel a session" goes to Julia R. Nunley, MD, FACP, and yesterday morning's dermatology session. At the start of her lecture, Dr. Nunley told the audience about her trip to San Francisco:
I was in Richmond, Virginia, headed off to the airport to catch plane to come here. Got delayed, got a different connection, got delayed again, got a different connection, got delayed again, got a different connection, got delayed again, and said "OK, I'm not going to make any of those connections, so I said can you get me halfway across the country and I'll spend the night and get the other half the next day?" So they said, "OK, we'll get you to Dallas tonight. The flight leaves at 6." Then the flight was leaving at 7, then 8. Then it landed in Nashville. I'm in Richmond, Virginia. Then it said it was coming at 9. Then at 7:30, it was canceled. There were no other flights out of Richmond. So I went to the United counter and I said, "What's the earliest tomorrow morning?" They said, "6 am." I said, "I'll catch a cab." After a $350 taxi ride, I spent 2 hours in a Dulles airport hotel and took a shower, and caught the flight.
